Have you ever played GTA San Andreas and wondered about the game’s characters? Who are these characters and what do they really do? With over 250 characters, people don’t really remember who is a friend or an enemy in CJ’s story. The GTA San Andreas characters played an important role in CJ’s life. The main GTA San Andreas character is Carl Johnson, who is known as CJ or Carl.
Carl Johnson (CJ)
Voice Actor: Young Maylay
Carl Johnson, CJ, is the main or playable character in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Carl is the co-leader of his street gang, the Grove Street Families, which is rooted in Los Santos. In 1987, Carl leaves Los Santos after his brother’s death and goes to Liberty City. In 1992, he came back to Los Santos after his mother (Beverly Johnson) was murdered.
When he was returning home, some C.R.A.S.H members, Eddie Pulaski, Frank Tenpenny, and Jimmy Hernandez, stopped CJ. They told Carl to work for them, or otherwise they would frame him for the fake murder of police officer Ralph Pendelbury. When Carl came back, he got to know that his gang, the Grove Street Families, had almost lost his power.
Carl and his brother, Sweet, promise to make their gang, the Grove Street Families, powerful again. This is the story of Carl Johnson in GTA San Andreas, where he tries to get their power back without too much destruction.

Sweet Johnson

Sweet Johnson is the leader of the gang, Grove Street Families, or the elder brother of Carl. The Ballas arranged a drive-by shooting to kill Sweet, but they missed and killed his mother, Beverly Johnson, mistakenly, and this is the reason why CJ came back to Los Santos. Without Carl, Sweet’s control over the gang becomes weak because the other gangs manufacture and sell drugs. When CJ returns, Sweet does not believe him, but later realizes that they both want the Grove Street Families’ power back.
Big Smoke

Big Smoke is the beloved and highly ranked member of the Grove Street Families, but later he betrays his gang for the Ballas. After joining Ballas, Big Smoke becomes a powerful criminal in the underworld of Los Santos. He disbands the Grove Street Families and makes deals with the Russian Mafia and Vagos.
Ryder

Ryder is also a very high-ranked member of his gang, the Grove Street Families. Carl and Ryder had both done many robberies, mostly weapons robberies, but later Ryder betrayed his gang to C.R.A.S.H., the Ballas, and the Los Santos Vagos.

In Grand Theft Auto, Frank Tenpenny is the police officer in Los Santos (LSPD) and a member of the C.R.A.S.H. (Community Resources Against Street Hoodlums) unit. Tenpenny always uses his power to control Carl; he always forces him to do dirty jobs for him, otherwise Carl will be arrested for a crime that he has never committed. In the game, Tenpenny gives Carl difficult missions like stealing FBI files.
Cesar Vialpando

Cesar is the brother-in-law of Carl, and he is also the leader of the Varrios Los Aztecas gang, which is rooted in El Corona. Carl first meets CJ in a racing competition, and they both become very close allies. Cesar helps Carl take revenge on the traitors who forced CJ to leave Los Santos.

Truth is an old hippie who lives in Flint County. CJ and Truth became very good friends while CJ was living in Badlands. When the police know about Truth’s cannabis farm, CJ helps Truth destroy his farm’s crops. Later, Carl steals a jetpack from Area 69 for Truth.

Jizzy B. is the biggest pimp in his town and the owner of the club Pleasure Domes. Jizzy B., T-Bone Mendez, and Mike Toreno are involved in drugs. He hired Carl to save Mike Toreno and to save his drugs from being stolen by his rivals. Later, Carl killed him because he supplied drugs to the Los Santos and the Grove Street Families.
T-Bone Mendez

Kent Paul is the producer of the band The Gurning Chimps, who brings the band to San Andreas. He meets with Carl when Carl rescues him and Maccer when they are stranded in the desert. Later, Kent Paul introduces Carl to Ken Rosenberg, who helps him with the important information about Caligula’s Palace. After that, Carl helps Kent Paul escape from Salvatore Leone, and Kent Paul also helps Carl bring Madd Dogg’s rap career back to success.

Maccer is originally from Manchester, UK, and is the main lead singer in The Gurning Chimps band. Carl rescues Maccer and Kent Paul when they are stranded in the desert, and he again saves them from Salvatore Leone. He is the manager of Caligula’s Palace, which owns three Mafia families: Forellis, Leones, and Sindaccos. He fears his death from one of these three families, and due to this fear, he started taking drugs that he recently stopped taking. He hired Carl to stop the war from starting between these three Mafia families. He also escaped from these families with the help of Carl, and later he became an accountant for Madd Dogg.

When Carl Johnson returned to Los Santos, Madd Dogg’s career was at its peak, and he had just started his own clothing brand. He is a rapper from Los Santos and lives in a big mansion in Mulholland. Carl disrupts his career by stealing his rhyme book and killing his manager, Alan Crawford. After this, Madd Dogg goes to Las Venturas and gives his big mansion to Big Poppa for drugs. Later, Madd Dogg tries to commit suicide, but Carl saves him. After that, Carl helps him in his career and makes him successful again.

Zero is a 28-year-old electronics expert who owns the Zero RC shop in San Fierro. Zero’s enemy is Berkley, who also owns a shop called Top Fun. He hires Carl to disrupt Berkeley’s business. Berkely is forced to leave the city after a small “war game” between them. Later, Zero provides electronics for a heist at Caligula’s Palace, although Carl later punches him because he risked the heist.
OG Loc

OG Lock (Jeffery Cross) is an amateur rapper and a friend of the Grove Street Families. He went to prison for a few weeks and was released in 1992. After his release, he started working at Burger Shot. He employed CJ to help him start his rap career. CJ helped him and killed Freddy, and Alan Crawford and OG Loc started becoming successful in their careers. Later, Carl and Madd Dogg chase OG Loc in western Los Santos, confront him, and take back Madd Dogg’s rhyme book that was stolen by Carl for Og Loc in the past.

Kendl Johnson is the sister of Carl ”CJ”, Brian, and Sweet, and she is the girlfriend of Cesar Vialpando, which is why Cesar and CJ became allies. Kendl started living in Angel Pine when Ballas and Los Santos Vagos gangs took control of many areas of Los Santos. Later, she started helping in the businesses of his brother ”CJ”, such as Four Dragon Casino and the garage business. After some time, Kendl returns to Los Santos with his boyfriend Cesar. Moreover, during the “Los Desperados” mission, Cesar tells CJ that he wants to marry Kendl.
